Animación Boricua at Sagrado was designed as a day of learning, connection, and honest conversation about what it takes to build a sustainable animation ecosystem in Puerto Rico. From the moment people started arriving, you could feel that mix of excitement, curiosity, and the feeling of “por fin tenemos algo así aquí,” which is exactly what we hoped for.

We brought together workshops, panels, and informal spaces for people to meet, ask questions, and share experiences, from students just starting out to working artists, producers, and studio heads. The recap video captures the energy in the room, but what stayed with me most was the sense of possibility, the feeling that if we keep showing up for each other, our work and our industry will keep leveling up.

Why this day mattered for MythLens

For MythLens, events like Animación Boricua are just as important as the shows and films we are developing. Our mission is not only to create IP for kids and families, it is also to nurture the creative community that will tell those stories with integrity, skill, and heart.

Being able to collaborate with Film Nights and la Escuela de Artes, Diseño e Industrias Creativas at Sagrado on a day fully focused on animation felt like a natural extension of that mission. We want young and emerging artists to see animation not just as a dream, but as a craft and a career path with tools, mentors, and peers they can access right here on the island.

You took time out of your lives to be in the room, ask questions, share your work, and imagine what is next for animation in Puerto Rico. The energy and intention you brought is the reason we do this, and it is the fuel for whatever comes after this first edition.

Mirando hacia adelante / Looking ahead

Animación Boricua is just the beginning. Our hope is to keep building spaces where animators, illustrators, storytellers, producers, educators, and kids can come together to learn, collaborate, and dream bigger about what we can create from here.
